yay!

Come visit! Our mill will be closed next week Monday, October 1-Saturday October 6, due to some construction projects we are working on, to improve upon what we already have in place here–

The gallery and the Coffee Ba(a)rn (ha!) will be open as usual next week. AND we’ll be at the Taos Wool Festival on October 6 and 7 selling our millspun products made from local and regional fibers! It is such a fun event, rich with the incredible fiber people and products of the southwest! See you there-

I still intend to post photos of the CVM yarn, but until then…

Dr. Teresa Smith de Cherif from Mora Valley Community Health Services has connected us to the Living Harvest Bakery, thus THE COFFEE BARN is now selling fresh, whole-grain, hearty, healthy deliciousness in baked good form! Huzzah!

We have muffins, loaves of bread, and we just tested an incredible and massive cinnamon roll- nom nom nom. This is new and exciting news, as this is one step towards the future of our culinary arts center/community kitchen; it allows us to test our customer-base and see if there exists a demand for fresh, baked goods…so far, it seems that, yes, there is a demand. Dr. Cherif encourages this venture as she sees a need for healthy foods (including healthy snack foods) in our community. She wants to see the Mora Valley prospering with health and vibrancy! The baked goods are made with all-natural ingredients and fresh whole grain flours.

This is what it’s all about folks. Getting the community involved. Bringing people together. Looking out for and supporting each other. Right on.

So, Stop in, drink a cappuccino and take a muffin for the road. Maybe invest in some of the fine, hand-made, consigned items we sell in our gallery, or get some yarn for your latest fiber project. See you soon!

Oh, we are so not on top of updating this blog or this website! At least for now, we do have a functioning, fairly accurate website!

I am writing to let you all know about a beautiful new yarn we’ve got here in our gallery. Pictures coming soon! The yarn is 100% CVM wool from the California Variegated Mutant Sheep from some friends with a flock in Avondale, Colorado! The yarn is soft and squishy, and already Alex has made himself a keychain necklace with some two ply coyote, and I have made a ‘hippy-homey’ hat for a friend with the 2/1000 in four natural colors (chocolate-brown, light grey, tan and oatmeal). We have a limited lot available in this yarn (none of it is dyed), as we received the fiber through a spin-for-trade. This is one of the first times we’ve met or dealt with CVM wool at the Mora Valley Spinning Mill, and we are excited because we all really like this fiber! We have a 2-ply and 4-ply; both are really nice knitting yarns. So come visit us! It is a lovely time of year in the Mora Valley, ripe with afternoon rains and green grasses (keep ‘em coming, monsoons!). Drink an iced latte and check out our fiber! See you soon—
